Mayfield Camberwell is located in a charming old Victorian building. Our centre is designed to be an extension of the family home as we aspire to provide a sense of Home away from home. Caring for children from six weeks old to school age, your child will develop their skills and confidence in natural and open-ended environments. We pride ourselves on providing seasonal healthy and nutritious meals, while offering experiences that would broaden young minds towards their greater world. Our play-based learning programs are influenced by the Reggio-Emillia approach where we believe children are capable and valuable members of our community.
All inclusions are subject to availability and are provided at the discretion of the centre director.
The is an estimate of what you might expect to pay. Fees are based on a 10 hour session fee per day for 3 days, for a specific rate please contact us directly.
The main focus for this age group is providing abundance of time and opportunities for children to establish new relationships on top of the few they have known since birth. It is important for us that babies are able to find a new sense comfort and security within the Little Learners environment in order to kick-start their developmental journey.
The toddler room focuses on encouraging children to explore and develop their sense of self. As this room are suited for children of ages 2-3 years old, this is an integral part of their social-emotional development. Encouraging children towards positive eating, identifying safety, social interactions, daily routines and self-helps skills are crucial to their sense of self-confidence.
For the 3 year olds, the friendships and knowledge they develop during this time will support them through their schooling years and beyond. The 3 year old Kinder room is part of the Victorian Funded Kinder Program established by the Department of Education. Our bachelor-qualified teacher ensures that all kinder curriculum are age-appropriate to introduce them to all necessary skills needed for their kinder learning. Our formal kindergarten program operates every day between 8:30am to 4:30pm.
The 4 year old kinder room is where children explore their self-expression; through emotions, playing in different environments, and communication with their social environment. As they are constantly learning new things about their being, we use their individual and group interests as contributions to our innovative and emergent programs. This is where they further develop their independence, self-help skills, social and academic skills in a structured and supportive environment. The 4 year old Kinder room is part of the Victorian Funded Kinder Program established by the Department of Education. Our formal kindergarten program operates every day between 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Kinder children are guided by their bachelor-qualified teacher to prepare themselves for school readiness.
We provide most of the essentials that may be needed throughout the day. We ask that you pack and label; spare clothes, water bottle, comfort items/dummies. And if your child requires a sleeping bag, milk bottles, formula, or breast milk.
We offer orientation sessions for families to come along before the first day to have a short play with us. These sessions are usually close to the first day and act as a good lead in. It gives you, your child, and the educators time to get to know each other and the opportunity to ask any questions or provide important information. These sessions are usually organized once enrolment is confirmed, they last for 2 hours and are free of charge. Talking about it at home is also a great way to get your child excited for all the amazing experiences they will get to be a part of.
Be positive! Make the drop off a happy experience and take a few minutes to help your child to settle in. The mornings can be busy, but taking some time to find an activity your child enjoys and saying goodbye can help for a smoother start to their day. There will always be a warm and caring educator on hand to help. You are always welcome to give the centre a call after you have left for an update.
The educator to child ratio varies depending on state and territory, we meet or exceed this ratio. 0 to 24 months the ratio is 1:4 in all states and territories. 24 to 36 months the ratio is 1:5 in QLD and SA, and 1:4 in VIC. Over 36 months the ratio is 1:11 in QLD, SA and VIC. You can find out more on the ACECQA website.
It is important to take the time to find a centre where you feel confident and comfortable and know your child will be safe, happy, and protected. Find a centre that provides a learning environment where careful guidance and role modelling by educators can help children become competent, independent and develop valuable life skills. It is also important to consider aspects that will impact your family such as location, cost, and inclusions.

We have been at this centre for over 5 years and have had an exceptional experience. The carers are very nurturing and dedicated and are almost an extended family to ours. We would highly recommend.
