During the nursery stage, babies and young toddlers are in the early stages of their development. The focus of a childcare centre in this stage is primarily on providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. All the educators at Sandringham prioritise building secure attachments with each child, fostering a sense of trust and emotional security. Activities often focus on sensory exploration, fine and gross motor development, language acquisition, and social interaction.
The toddler stage is a time of rapid growth and exploration. Children at this age are developing their independence, language skills, and social abilities. At our daycare in Sandringham, the focus shifts towards fostering self-help skills, promoting language development, and encouraging social interactions and play among friends. Activities may include imaginative play, early literacy, numeracy experiences, sensory exploration, and physical activities that enhance coordination and motor skills.
Kindergarten is the final stage before children transition to big school. At this stage, children have developed foundational skills and are ready for more structured learning experiences. Our teachers align their curriculum with the early years of schooling, focusing on preparing children for a successful transition. The emphasis is on further developing literacy and numeracy skills, fostering critical thinking, promoting social skills, and encouraging independence, responsibility, and self-regulation. Activities may include phonics and reading instruction, basic math concepts, problem-solving tasks, science exploration, creative arts, and educational, collaborative projects.
All inclusions are subject to availability and are provided at the discretion of the centre director.

We provide most of the essentials your child may need during the day. We kindly ask that you pack and label spare clothes, a water bottle, comfort items/dummies, and, if needed, a sleeping bag, milk bottles, formula, or breast milk.
We offer orientation sessions for a short playtime before the first day. These sessions, scheduled close to your child's start date, provide a valuable opportunity for you, your child, and our amazing educators to connect, ask questions, and share important information. Held after enrolment is confirmed, these two-hour sessions are free of charge. Chatting about the upcoming experience at home can also help your child feel excited about all the wonderful activities they'll enjoy.
Stay positive! Make drop-off a cheerful experience by helping your child settle in for a few moments. Mornings can be busy, taking time to find an activity they enjoy and saying a warm goodbye can make their start smoother. There will always be a friendly, caring educator ready to assist. You're also welcome to call the centre anytime after leaving for an update.
The educator-to-child ratio varies. For children 0 to 24 months, the ratio is 1:4 in all states and territories, 1:4 in VIC for children 24 to 36 months, and 1:11 for children 36 months and over. You can find out more on the ACECQA website.
Choosing the right centre is essential to feeling confident and comfortable, knowing your child will be safe, happy, and well cared for. Look for a centre with a supportive learning environment, where skilled educators provide guidance and role modelling to help children build independence, confidence, and valuable life skills. Also, consider practical aspects that matter to your family, such as location, cost, and inclusions.

I’m very happy with the Mayfield Team - it is very professional, friendly and most reliable .... My son is so happy there and learns so much every day which is a huge impact on my son’s development. It’s such a welcoming and friendly environment.

My child joined at 14 months when she could barely walk/talk and has now just left as a confident and happy little chatterbox. The educators have changed her life and the development has been incredible to watch. They are all very caring and attentive and the things they teach every day are so diverse. My 2yo came home talking about "recycling"! The childcare experience from day dot has been nothing short of amazing and would highly recommend this centre to anyone.

Could not recommend this childcare enough. Our daughter has always felt safe, comfortable and very happy at Sandringham and we couldn’t thank the educators enough. We are sadly leaving due to moving house and we will miss this centre dearly!
